What’s In A Name?

As I neared the one-year anniversary of Parrels Advisory, I was reminded about the process to create the company’s name.  It still seems like all the stars aligned to navigate me to it.  In the end, two separate paths led to the same answer.

My passion to help organizations solve their most complex business problems so they could get to what’s next always served as the north star.  Between the boiler plate offerings promising solutions from a canned presentation to the fact that over 70% of strategic initiatives fail, it was clear the business community was being under served and advised when it came to their critical make-or-break decisions.

In response to this, it was important to provide a solution that would empower businesses to take control of their destinies and transform by getting clear on strategy, building momentum through action, and achieving results.  To best address this need, providing strategic advisory services focused on execution that offered critical insight and tactical solutions was the obvious choice.

With this in place, the process to find the right name started in earnest down various avenues.  The first followed a more traditional path looking for words or phrases that would be indicative of what the company stands for.  During that process, the word parrel kept coming up.  This nautical term referenced the device that provided a sail freedom of motion on the mast while still keeping it affixed and under control.

My family was also a driving factor behind the creation of the company.  With only a few years left before my daughters left home, ensuring I had more time with them and greater control over my own schedule was paramount.  And, while the pandemic has created even more time together than planned, I couldn’t be happier with the decision.

This left the task of finding a way to pay homage to them.  Following the more traditional approach of combining their names different ways, I either ended up with something that sounded like a bad plot line from an Irish gangster movie or an under developed Star Trek character that’s the first to be attacked by the malevolent aliens when they beam down to the planet’s surface.

With that option ruled out, I considered interests of theirs, with a shared passion for all things Harry Potter at the top of the list.  During this research, I stumbled across a list of common spells from the book series, some of which aligned directly to the company’s core principals and offerings to clients.  As I listed them out and stared down the list, the first letters of each seemed oddly familiar.

From there it was a quick jump to see if anyone else had the name online with the business cards in the made shortly thereafter.  Why we do things and the stuff that gets us out of bed, excited for a new day matter.  For the leaders of small to mid-sized businesses, the survival and growth of their companies can weigh heavy on their shoulders.  Parrels Advisory exists for them so they can crush their goals and achieve their ideal future.
